Frontend
A short explanation of the frontend in our glossary
The frontend refers to the parts of a piece of software that the customer sees. Frontend developers therefore focus on client-side programming and on implementing the layout of an app, piece of software or website. Generally, the markup language HTML, the stylesheet language CSS and the programming language JavaScript are used for this.
Frontend developers work as the interface between the backend and web design. Following certain specifications, they implement the design of applications in technical terms. In some companies, frontend developers also take on the tasks of web designers and, depending on the size of the company, those of backend developers too.
